Resources

Migration in progress
Under Construction. Still needs more detailed explanations on how each resource helped me.

Here will be some of my favorite books, tools, and gear that I use and recommend.

Whether you're looking to improve your skills, stay updated with industry trends, or create video content, these resources have been invaluable on my journey.

Data & Code

Books

  • Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Martin Kleppmann: Everything about modern data systems is there.

Data Stack

  • Streamlit: My go-to framework for building data apps.
  • Polars: A lightning-fast DataFrame library for data manipulation in Python.

Dev Tools

  • VS Code: My primary editor, customized with the "Python" and "Pylance" extensions.
  • uv: An extremely fast Python package installer and resolver.
  • Ruff: Python linter and code formatter.

Content Creation

Video

  • Main Camera: Sony α7 IV: My phone kept losing focus, so I bought this for Youtube talking head videos and street photography.
  • Secondary Camera: DJI Osmo Pocket 3: Vlog and street interviews camera
  • Key Light: Neewer 18-inch Ring Light: Neewer Professional Ring Light with Tripod
  • Side Lights: Elgato Key Light & IVISII G2 Pocket RGB: I use the Elgato for consistent, app-controlled fill light and the IVISII for adding splashes of color to the background or "rim" lighting.

Audio

  • Audio-Technica 2035: A large-diaphragm cardioid condenser mic for my videos.
  • SSL 2+ Audio Interface: Provides clean, professional-grade preamps for the microphone.
  • Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (250 Ohm): Closed-back headphones for recording; they offer good isolation so my mic doesn't pick up my monitor audio.
  • Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro (250 Ohm): Open-back headphones, used exclusively for mixing and editing.

Computer Gear

  • Elgato Stream Deck: A versatile tool for automating repetitive tasks and managing my recordings.

Software

  • OBS Studio: What I use for screen recording and streaming.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud: Premiere Pro for editing, After Effects for motion graphics, and Photoshop for thumbnails. I also use Lightroom Classic to organize and grade my library of ~60k photos.

Personal Development

Books

  • Thank you for Arguing by Jay Heinrichs: A masterclass in rhetoric and persuasion.
